To me, New England inspires everything hard working, forested, and rugged. I love that it's the birthplace of much of our nation's growing pains, and so it's only fitting that it's the first door we release in The Door Project. Now might be a good time to share that our initial and official The Door Project quilt will be designed and sewn by me, in tones closest to the inspiration pictures I found online. To see New England's inspiration picture, click here. Soon we will be releasing different fabric versions of each block to evoke all of the possibilities this project holds.
My family loves to go birding, and New England has many birds that don't ever make it this far West, including some occasional strays from the Arctic, which sounds very exciting to me. The bird-friendly, rocky shoreline up there seems to dribble out into Canada and snow. I'm picturing Diane Keaton making baby food in the movie Baby Boom. Anyone else remember that kind of cold?
I've always loved the Cape Cod facades of homes in New England, so this was a fun block to design. Simplicity and classic architecture.
