Fairy doors are so darling in people's gardens, and since we needed a small filler door, we decided to make our own quilty fairy door. This block is a quarter of the size of most of the other doors in our quilt, and when I took the finished top to our quilter, Nicole, I asked her to quilt a sparkly fairy dust trail going out, as if the fairy had just flown in. She did a fantastic job, so look closely when the finished quilt is revealed soon.
Fairies remind me of all that imagination can bring. Magic is an important part of life, and one that I try to keep alive in my children. At Christmastime or St. Patrick's Day, when they lose a tooth, or in choosing great library books. After all, if there is no more magic left in this world, what would we have left?
The inspiration for our fairy door comes from a conglomerate of inspirational fairy doors, like this one from Red Ted Art's blog.
